Learn about Teddy’s Life

(in his own words)

R&B pioneer. Philadelphia-soul icon. The “Black Elvis.” Hit maker. Survivor. Advocate and champion.

The Teddy and Joan Pendergrass Foundation.

Teddy Pendergrass made a name for himself in the music industry with his rich baritone voice becoming a popular fixture in the 1970’s soul scene, as a collaborator and a solo artist. At the height of his career, Teddy suffered a catastrophic injury to his spinal cord confining him to a wheel chair for the rest of his life. He persevered. And, dedicated his life to advocating for spinal cord injury survivors.
